Understand Yourself. Live Differently
Counseling During Divorce or Custody Litigation
Often, parents involved in a difficult divorce or contentious child custody litigation are mandated, or strongly urged, to seek individual counseling. Counseling offers parents a safe environment in which to express their feelings about their co-parent, and/or the legal process, without the risk of being accused of alienation. Refining communication skills with their co-parent and/or children is another important benefit of the therapeutic process. I have worked with parents whose perception of counseling has evolved from the feeling that they are “jumping through hoops” to one of being supported by a member of their “team” and experiencing unexpected personal growth.
